Beltway Atheists was started by Rick Wingrove and Jeff Wismer as a Meetup on 2006. In 2008, Beltway Atheists applied for incorporation as a 501(c)(3) in Washington DC. We received our 501(c)(3) certification in October of 2010. We are now a non-profit corporation. Beltway Atheists, Inc. is not affiliated with Capital Beltway Atheists Meetup.
Beltway Atheists, Inc. is closely affiliated with NOVA Atheists and with American Atheists.
We are interested in growing and empowering the Atheist community. This involves both creating and providing opportunities for Atheists to come out, socialize, and meet each other. We are also interested in activism in our community and in the US in defense of the Constitutional separation of church and state.
